Iraq's Governing Council on Friday endorsed Iyad Allawi as its choice to become the country's new prime minister in a transitional government. It was unclear, however, whether United Nations envoy Lakhdar Brahimi had accepted the nomination.Brahimi, who is charged with assembling a new Iraqi government drawn from the country's diverse ethnic factions, has found it difficult to find suitable and willing candidates for office. On Thursday Canadian-trained nuclear scientist Hussain al-Shahristani declined the post of prime minister, which appeared to be his for the taking -- I think he was quoted as saying he is already regular and did not need any help with a bomb up the ass.
